Fragonard, a painter and printmaker of the late Rococo era, was known for his remarkable facility, exuberance, and hedonism. He produced over 550 paintings, with only five dated, that convey an atmosphere of intimacy and veiled eroticism. His works are part of the Norton Simon Museum’s collection of European paintings and sculptures, which is considered one of the most distinguished in North America.
