Ginkgo - The Diggers Club

Ginkgo - The Diggers Club

Whilst generally regarded as an ancient tree of Chinese origin, evidence has been found in Victoria, Australia of Ginkoites, direct relatives of the Ginko biloba, posing the question - is this ancient tree an Australia native? Definitely from Gondwana origins, its fan-shaped leaves have been found embedded in Australia’s ancient rocks and black coal (Wonthaggi, Vic), making it one of our oldest native trees. Our seeds come from Melbourne’s biggest Ginkgo, in the garden of a Diggers member. In your garden, its gorgeous leaves will turn yellow in autumn and it will thrive through frost and humidity. Seed grown. Slow growth rate.
