Hawker Hurricane Mk.I - Tamiya 37011 The Hawker Hurricane was one of the Second World War's lead RAF fighters alongside the Spitfire. With wide-track retractable landing gear and eight 7.7 mm machine guns, this low-wing monoplane implemented known biplane features such as a tubular frame. Although Hurricanes were surpassed by the more advanced Messerschmitt Bf 109Es of the Luftwaffe, the Battle of Britain in July 1940 saw Spitfires engaging to escort Bf109s as Hurricanes followed the bombers.
