Créateur du concept « gros moteur, petite voiture », Volkswagen continue sa progression avec la Golf V R32. Gagnant 9ch par rapport à la Golf IV, le 6 cylindres culmine à 250ch ! L’amélioration du comportement routier lui fait marquer des points mais les adeptes des petites sportives sont encore déçus par son aspect « GT » dû, en grande partie à son poids très important (1550kg environ !).
