Can I use the same ground for my 5V battery and Arduino like this

I have been powering my Arduino with an external 5V battery for a couple of days thru the vin and ground. I want to add a breadboard for testing some stuff. I usually have my MKR NB 1500 connected to a USB port when using a breadboard. Then I would just connect the 5V pin to the breadboard plus lane, and the ground pin to the minus lane. But my external battery cant access the ground pin I was to this now. So I was wondering if I could share the same ground lane between the battery and the Ardu
